Project Files

Project files are documents uploaded to a specific project that become available to AI agents during conversations.

Adding Files to Projects

When creating a new project, go to the Files tab in the project form, click Upload Files, select or drag files into the upload area, and wait for the upload to complete.

To add files to existing projects, open the project for editing, go to the Files tab, upload your new files, and save the project.

You can also save conversation artifacts directly to projects. Open an artifact created during a conversation, click Save to Project, select the target project, and the artifact is added to the project files.

File Management

In the project files tab you can see each file's name, size, upload date, and type. To remove a file, click the delete icon and confirm removal.

warning

Removing a file cannot be undone. Make sure you have a backup if needed.

Using Project Files

When a project is active, its files are available to AI agents, can be referenced in responses, and provide context automatically during conversations.

Project files differ from knowledge bases: project files are specific to one project, while knowledge bases are shared across the organization. Consider which approach fits your needs—use project files for project-specific documents and knowledge bases for organization-wide resources.

Best Practices

File organization: Upload only relevant files, use clear file names, remove outdated documents, and keep files current. Good candidates for project files include project briefs, requirements documents, reference materials, and meeting notes. Avoid uploading large media files or temporary drafts.

Naming conventions: Use descriptive names like acme-project-requirements-v2.pdf or client-brand-guidelines.pdf rather than vague names like doc1.pdf or final-final-v3.pdf.

Example Setup

A typical client project might include files like client-brief.pdf, requirements-document.docx, brand-guidelines.pdf, meeting-notes-2024-01-15.md, and competitor-analysis.xlsx.

An internal project might have project-plan.pdf, timeline.xlsx, team-roles.md, budget-breakdown.xlsx, and stakeholder-list.docx.

Troubleshooting

Upload failures: Check file size limits, verify the file format is supported, try refreshing the page, and check your internet connection.

Files not available in conversations: Verify the project is active, check that file upload completed successfully, refresh the page, or re-upload if necessary.

Processing issues: Wait for processing to complete (this can take a few moments for larger files), check file format compatibility, try re-uploading, and contact support for very large files.
