Chat Features

Gen8 chats include several powerful features that enhance your interaction with AI agents. This guide covers file uploads, message feedback, copy options, and more.

File Uploads

Sharing files with the AI is straightforward. Click the attachment icon (📎) in the message input, select your files, or simply drag and drop them into the chat. Files appear as attachments on your message before you send it, giving you a chance to review what you're sharing.

Different file types get processed differently. Images can be viewed and described by the AI. Documents have their content extracted so the AI can read and reference them. Audio files can be transcribed when that capability is enabled. Other file types are available as references even if the AI can't directly process their contents.

Keep file size limits in mind—individual files and overall attachments have limits, and large files take longer to process. For effective file sharing, use clear and descriptive filenames, compress large files when possible, mention what you want the AI to focus on, and try to keep each set of files focused on one topic.

Message Feedback

Your feedback helps improve AI responses over time. On each AI message, you'll find feedback icons—thumbs up for helpful responses, thumbs down for unhelpful ones. After rating, you can optionally add a comment explaining what was good or could be improved.

This feedback matters more than you might think. It helps improve agent performance, identifies issues with prompts or configurations, guides future improvements, and tracks quality over time.

Copy Options

AI responses can be copied in different formats for different purposes. Click the copy icon on any AI message to see your options.

Plain gives you unformatted text only—use this when pasting into plain text fields. Structured preserves structure without styling, good for documents where organization matters but formatting doesn't. Styled keeps basic formatting intact for email or word processors. Markdown preserves markdown syntax for GitHub, technical documentation, or other markdown-aware contexts. HTML gives you raw HTML markup for web pages or HTML-aware applications.

Stop Generation

Sometimes you need to interrupt the AI mid-response. Maybe it's heading in the wrong direction, you've seen enough information, you want to redirect the conversation, or it's simply taking too long. Click the Stop button while the AI is generating and it stops immediately.

After stopping, the partial response is preserved and you can continue the conversation normally—ask follow-up questions, start a new request, or redirect to a different topic.

Chat History

Your chat history is always accessible. Navigate to Chats to see all your previous chats. You can search by keywords, filter by agent, sort by date, or browse by project.

Resume any previous chat by clicking on it. The full context is preserved, so you can continue exactly where you left off.

Real-Time Indicators

The chat interface keeps you informed about what's happening. A typing indicator shows when the AI is generating a response. Tool activity indicators appear when the AI is using a tool like search or document creation, with progress updates as it works. Processing indicators show when files or media are being handled.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Speed up your workflow with keyboard shortcuts. Press Enter to send your message, Shift + Enter to add a new line without sending. Standard clipboard shortcuts work in the editor.

Best Practices

For effective conversations, be specific in your requests and provide context when it's helpful. Use feedback to help improve results over time, and attach relevant files when they'll help the AI understand what you need.

To keep chats manageable, name important chats so you can find them later, use projects to organize related chats, and periodically review and clean up old chats you no longer need.
